Flight Hub

FlightHub and Justfly are online travel agencies in Canada and USA. As a UX Designer on the product team, I focused on the journey of buying plane tickets.

A Jill of all Trades (that loved research)

During my time at Flight Hub, I worked on many different projects. Some of the things I worked on while there included:

  • Utilising Hotjar to understand user behaviour, needs and pain points
  • Applying UX best practices to FlightHub's brand
  • Create wireframes, flows and mock ups
  • Create animated prototypes
  • Championing accessibility across products
  • Collaborating with developers and project managers

Though I was a UX Designer, my favourite parts were running Hotjar surveys and watching user recordings in Hotjar to better understand how to make Flight Hub the best for your users. As there was no user researcher while I there, I would also always test my designs against my colleagues across all departments. This not only helped discover any usability issues, but also started getting employees involved and championing user research on new features.

The tools I used while working at Flight Hub included:

  • Sketch
  • Invision
  • Hotjar
  • Usability Hub
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • After Effects
  • Principle
  • Jira

Design -> Development

I worked quite closely with the development team at Flight Hub. I ensured that developers stay on spec with prototypes I provide for them and at times I also aid in the quality assurance of the product by checking both brands on every platform. Dev hand off is so important that even now in my current role as a UXR I try to involve them as much as possible at relevant stages.

One of my favourite projects working directly with developers was when we created a skeleton loader while a user's flight search was loading. After that, I collaborated with a machine learning specialist on other loading animations that would give different flight suggestions based on the user's behaviours.

Project Nitro

This cool-named project was a complete revamp of the check out process when a user tries to book a flight.

The aim of this projects was to increase revenue by increasing the amount of extras user could select during the check out. Some extras that were offered were selecting your seat, having extra insurance, getting your booking reference texted to you, cancelation protection, baggage protection and more. My role in this was to create an optimal 3 step checkout flow that would encourage users to add these extras on.

Though I worked on many projects at Flight Hub, for confidentially reasons, I can only show the work that I completed on this project.
